The Force Awakens – DVD release

Coming soon to a home theatre near you! That’s right! The Force Awakens DVD will be out this April – available for digital download form on April 1st and physical Blue Ray and DVD on the 5th. Thats less than a month away!

That’s right! Soon you will be able to watch the Force Awakens from the comfort of your own home!

There are going to be several deleted scenes as well as a couple of very cool mini features, such as the making of the lightsaber duel in the snowy forest and one that will focus on John Williams and the making of the music from the movie. I’ve always thought that the one thing that set apart Star Wars from anything else that has come out in the world of Science Fiction was the music.

In this edition of Star Wars This week i will be covering episodes 12 thru 15 of the second season of Rebels. I have unfortunately fallen behind on my “weekly” recaps of the Star Wars Universe, and i have decided to dedicate one full instalment of Star Wars This Week to catch up on the missing adventures of the Rebels Crew.

As we slowly build towards the highly anticipated Season 2 Finale, there is plenty more excitement to look forward to – click here to read my season two finale preview here. In January we were given a very exciting “mid season” trailer which gave us lots of clues as to how they were going to explore new connections to the force. I expect that we will have a few episodes in a row that explain a lot of this. Most of this will revolve around Ezra and his temptations towards the dark side.

Without further delay, here is this weeks instalment of Star Wars This Week as we explore the Star Wars Universe.

Spoiler Warning!

  • Star Wars Rebels (Season 2 – Episodes 12  + 13 + 14 + 15 )

#1 Star Wars Rebels – “Legends of the Lasat” (Episode 12)

7/10

Ezra calls in the help of a mysterious contact to make a daring rescue of prisoners from the clutches of the imperials. The crew soon finds out who this mysterious character is; The Pirate Hondo. And the reason that he has reached out to the Rebels crew is that the two prisoners that they are rescuing are refugee’s from Lasan, who were en route to an Imperial detention center.

Star Wars This Week #14

Darth Vader is sent as an enforcer to take out the dissenting Ore Barons of Shu-Toran… Obi-Wan and Anakin are stranded on a war-torn planet and are trying to investigate the origins of a mysterious distress signal…. Star Wars This Week steps into the comic panels with two instalments for our viewing pleasure.

Darth Vader begins an all new story arc following the events of Vader Down. In a continuation of the events from the successful Darth Vader Annual from December, Darth Vader returns to the planet Shu-Toran to finish his intimidation of the citizenry. All must come under the full control and command of the Empire, and Darth Vader is the agent sent to enforce this.

Obi-Wan and Anakin are stranded on a war torn planet and need to discover who sent out the distress signal that they were sent to investigate. They have been paired up with a couple of locals who will help them discover the nature of this distress signal.

This week’s edition of Star Wars this Week will cover this and so much more! So without further delay, here is this week’s recap and review of the events that happened in the Star Wars Universe.

!!!Spoiler Warning!!!

  • Featuring: Obi Wan and Anakin #2 / Darth Vader #16

#1 Obi Wan and Anakin #2

7.5/10

The ultimate balance between Anakin’s shoot first tendencies and Obi-Wan’s peacefulness is on full display here. The two Jedi have been dispatched to a war torn planet responding to a distress call they received. This takes place in the under-explored timeline between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Anakin is still a very young apprentice and Obi-Wan is his master.

Rebels – Journey to the Season Two Finale

The second season of Star Wars Rebels picked up where the show ended last season and expanded the scope and scale in which they tackled the Star Wars Universe. The first season focused more on the planet of Lothal, and the Ghost crew stepping up their efforts to defeat the Empire’s takeover of this planet. This is when Ezra – a young force sensitive child – joins up with Kanan, a former Jedi.

The second season expanded this to include the early incarnation of the Rebel Alliance, focusing on the first steps to defeat the empire. It also had Ezra growing exponentially in his force abilities while training with Kanan and Ashoka.

Star Wars Rebels this season was increased to 20 episodes, up from the 13 they did during the first season. It was also confirmed that the series has been picked up for a 3rd season, which is already in production and is expected to start airing in fall of 2016.

VII: The first Episode 8 teaser!!

Wow, i wasn’t expecting this at all! I thought for sure we would get a teaser for Rouge One before we even heard a hint about the next trilogy film… but i guess they are just super excited that they’re back on set filming….

Both Episode 8 and 9 will be written by director Rian Johnson, and he will also directing for Episode 8. It would be expected that he will now take fans on a two part roller-coaster ride into the Star Wars Universe!

So without further adieu, here is the first teaser for the yet un-named Star Wars movie!

Star Wars This Week #13

We return to Tatooine and are transported back into the Journals of Obi-Wan Kenobi… Kanan – then known as Caleb Dune – takes part in the third battle of Mygeeto during the Clone Wars…. A very famous princess arrives to help the Rebels on Lothal…. And we learn about the very important hyperspace routes that might help tip the scales during the Rebellion.

Star Wars this Week returns once again, this time with an action packed edition. Star Wars returns with another interlude, focusing on the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and tells the story of Obi-Wan during his exile on Tatooine while he keeps a watchful eye over a young Luke Skywalker. Star Wars Rebels has returned from its Holiday Hiatus with an exciting new push into the time of the early rebellion. Alderaan has been secretly supporting the rebellion in its infancy, and sends a famous Princess to help out on Lothal.

There is also a REALLY cool tie in between the Kanan comic and Star Wars Rebels, but if you pay close enough attention, you will see it. Im not going to spoil it here.

So without further delay, here is this week’s entry into the world of Star Wars.

!!!Spoiler Warning!!!

  • Featuring: Star Wars #15 / Kanan #10 / Star Wars Rebels (Season 2, Ep. 12 + 13)

#1 Star Wars #15

Score: 8/10

A nice cool-down from the Vader Down event that we just finished, the main title of Marvel Star Wars returns to the journals of Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is the second instalment from the pages of the journal which Luke Skywalker retrieved from Tatooine, and helps to fill in the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope for the once powerful Jedi Master.

TLDR: Vader Down #4 – #6

We pick up this story on the planet Vrogas Vas. Darth Vader has crash landed on the planet and the rebels have begun an all out assault to take him down once and for all. Darth Vader now knows the identity of his son – Luke Skywalker – and he will let nothing stand in his way to capture him.

This is the second half of the Vader Down recap and review. To see the review of issues #1 – # 3 click here.

The Vader Down event was released during December 2015 and January 2016 and merged the two story-lines from the two main Star Wars Comics – Darth Vader and Star Wars – for an epic crossover event. Unfortunatlty, it only lasted for 6 issues, but it was very exciting from start to finish, so maybe its for the best that it was contained in such a short run; it never got dull.

So without further delay, here is the second part of my Vader Down TLDR.

Vader Down #4

(Darth Vader #14)

Darth Vader’s true power is on display here. He has already thrown aside the first couple attacks on his location, he is proving to be as powerful as the legends would have foretold. Just when we thought the Rebels were gaining the upper hand, Darth Vader has captured Leia. Luke, Han and Chewie are going to need to save their friend from certain doom.

Star Wars This Week #12

Darth Vader faces off against Commander Karbin… Kylo Ren and the First Order have arrived on the Galactic scene in a major way…. This was yet another amazing week to be a Star Wars fan! My reviews and recaps follow.

We have reached the finale of the Vader Down crossover event. Sadly, this storyline had to end eventually, but the ride was more than satisfying! Darth Vader got to showcase how much of a bad-ass he is, while throwing aside a threat to his place in the Empire. We get to see howWe get to learn a bit more about Luke’s quest to become a Jedi.

This week I am finally posting my review of the Force Awakens. There is much more going on than what we saw in this movie, which honestly was the best part. They left a lot open to interpretation, which will give the people in charge of Episodes 8 and 9 lots to work with, and leave lots of loose ends to be covered by future novels and comics.

Without further delay, here is my take on the week that was in the Star Wars Universe.

!!!Spoiler Warning!!!

  • Featuring: Darth Vader #15 (Vader Down part 6) / Episode 7: The Force Awakens (Spoiler Review)

#1 Darth Vader #15 (Vader Down part 6)

Score: 9/10

This was the final instalment of the very exciting crossover event known as Vader Down. Darth Vader has his hands full while downed on the planet Vrogas Vas. Not only does he has to contend with the full on assault from the Rebel forces, he is now dealing with another rival; Comander Korbin. In this issue, we will see how everything ends up.

Episode 8 Release Date Announced!

It is exciting that we now have an official date for the release of Episode 8. Unfortunately, it is delayed… from May until December 15th 2017. We will have to wait just a little bit longer to see Episode 8 in theatres….

This still maintains the “5 movies in 5 years” set-up that Disney promised us, with the 3 trilogy movies and two stand-alone films.

Rebels Season 2 mid-season trailer

Well, this looks pretty exciting!!!  It has been announced that Star Wars Rebels will be back on Wednesdays, starting with next week – January 20th 2016. This announcement came along with a trailer, which I will put a link to below. We already know that the show has been ordered for a third season, so its awesome to see them pushing new boundaries.

The trailer is about 3 minutes long and shows a lot of footage from the second half of the season. The tone certainly looks a lot darker than the first season and a half that we’ve seen. Im excited to see how all of this plays out.
