Star Wars This Week #16

The Jedi – Ashoka, Ezra and Kanan – must seek answers from the Jedi Temple on Lothal… Chopper finally gets his own stand-alone story and has to escape the grasp of the Empire with the help of a new friend… The Rebels may have finally found a safe place to hide from the Empire; but is this planet really safe? We will investigate in this Rebels-centric edition of Star Wars This Week!

This week’s edition of Star Wars This Week will look into episodes 16, 17 and 18 of the second season of Star Wars Rebels.

One of the major themes from season two with the ghost crew revolves around the team being on the run. Always low on fuel and always trying to stay one step ahead of the inquisitors and the Empire. These episodes help resolve that side of this seasons storytelling. The other angle from this season- the Jedi and the Inquisitors who have been hunting them – will be addressed in the 2 part season finale…

Rogue One Comic expected in October

Details are still a little vague, but it sounds like Marvel will be releasing a 3 part mini-series (as well as a separate one shot comic) that will be coming out this October as a primer for the movie of the same name, which comes out in December. There is also a novel planned for release around the same time, known as “Star Wars Catalyst: A Rogue One Story”, to be released by Del Ray.

The movie is still shrouded in mystery, and we have yet to see a trailer, but its exciting to hear that we will be getting something tangible before its December release.

Top 10 Star Wars Characters

Everyone loves lists! And everyone loves Star Wars! So i’ve decided to combine these two loves and compile the ultimate top 10 list for the Star Wars Universe.

Im sure everyone will have their own opinion, especially outside of the top 5. This might be easier to appease people as a top 20 list, but instead i decided to be bold. I have taken characters only from Canon, from the Phantom Menace to the Force Awakens. So, very vauge spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the new movie.

Honorable mentions go to: , Darth Maul, Ashoka Tano, Mace Windu, Kanan Jarrus and … as well as newer characters like Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe Dameron and Rey. Their full potential has yet to be seen. In time some of the new era characters will break onto this list… but for now, these are my top 10 characters of all time.

Without further delay, here is my list of the Top 10 Star Wars Characters.

10. R2-D2

R2-D2 speaks no english, but this droid brings life to an important role, Luke Skywalker’s sidekick. Astromec droids are always important, but when they have a certain knack for saving the day like this guy, you know why he needs to be kept around.

Han Solo #1 (coming June 1st!)

That’s right! Coming this June, we can expect to see a new mini-series from Marvel comics, featuring everyone’s favourite smuggler Han Solo!

Much like the other short run comics that have come out so far – Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Lando – this is expected to be a 5-part mini-series. It will most likely take place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, although nothing has yet been confirmed, it sounds like this will be the time period that we will be following.

Here is the plot synopsis from Marvel:

  • “Han Solo has finally entered his ship into the Dragon Void Run – an infamous high-stakes race across the stars. You know, the race Han has dreamt of winning. Only there’s a catch – his entry into this legendary race is a top-secret undercover mission for Princess Leia and the Rebellion! Will he keep his mind on the mission? More importantly – can he manage to pull it off while still maintaining his lead in the race?!”

The Force Awakens – DVD release

Coming soon to a home theatre near you! That’s right! The Force Awakens DVD will be out this April – available for digital download form on April 1st and physical Blue Ray and DVD on the 5th. Thats less than a month away!

That’s right! Soon you will be able to watch the Force Awakens from the comfort of your own home!

There are going to be several deleted scenes as well as a couple of very cool mini features, such as the making of the lightsaber duel in the snowy forest and one that will focus on John Williams and the making of the music from the movie. I’ve always thought that the one thing that set apart Star Wars from anything else that has come out in the world of Science Fiction was the music.

In this edition of Star Wars This week i will be covering episodes 12 thru 15 of the second season of Rebels. I have unfortunately fallen behind on my “weekly” recaps of the Star Wars Universe, and i have decided to dedicate one full instalment of Star Wars This Week to catch up on the missing adventures of the Rebels Crew.

As we slowly build towards the highly anticipated Season 2 Finale, there is plenty more excitement to look forward to – click here to read my season two finale preview here. In January we were given a very exciting “mid season” trailer which gave us lots of clues as to how they were going to explore new connections to the force. I expect that we will have a few episodes in a row that explain a lot of this. Most of this will revolve around Ezra and his temptations towards the dark side.

Without further delay, here is this weeks instalment of Star Wars This Week as we explore the Star Wars Universe.

Spoiler Warning!

Star Wars This Week #14

Darth Vader is sent as an enforcer to take out the dissenting Ore Barons of Shu-Toran… Obi-Wan and Anakin are stranded on a war-torn planet and are trying to investigate the origins of a mysterious distress signal…. Star Wars This Week steps into the comic panels with two instalments for our viewing pleasure.

Darth Vader begins an all new story arc following the events of Vader Down. In a continuation of the events from the successful Darth Vader Annual from December, Darth Vader returns to the planet Shu-Toran to finish his intimidation of the citizenry. All must come under the full control and command of the Empire, and Darth Vader is the agent sent to enforce this.

Obi-Wan and Anakin are stranded on a war torn planet and need to discover who sent out the distress signal that they were sent to investigate. They have been paired up with a couple of locals who will help them discover the nature of this distress signal.

This week’s edition of Star Wars this Week will cover this and so much more! So without further delay, here is this week’s recap and review of the events that happened in the Star Wars Universe.

!!!Spoiler Warning!!!

  • Featuring: Obi Wan and Anakin #2 / Darth Vader #16

#1 Obi Wan and Anakin #2

7.5/10

The ultimate balance between Anakin’s shoot first tendencies and Obi-Wan’s peacefulness is on full display here. The two Jedi have been dispatched to a war torn planet responding to a distress call they received. This takes place in the under-explored timeline between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Anakin is still a very young apprentice and Obi-Wan is his master.

Rebels – Journey to the Season Two Finale

The second season of Star Wars Rebels picked up where the show ended last season and expanded the scope and scale in which they tackled the Star Wars Universe. The first season focused more on the planet of Lothal, and the Ghost crew stepping up their efforts to defeat the Empire’s takeover of this planet. This is when Ezra – a young force sensitive child – joins up with Kanan, a former Jedi.

The second season expanded this to include the early incarnation of the Rebel Alliance, focusing on the first steps to defeat the empire. It also had Ezra growing exponentially in his force abilities while training with Kanan and Ashoka.

Star Wars Rebels this season was increased to 20 episodes, up from the 13 they did during the first season. It was also confirmed that the series has been picked up for a 3rd season, which is already in production and is expected to start airing in fall of 2016.
