Darth Vader (Marvel) coming to an end.

The very popular Darth Vader series from Marvel will be coming to an end in August. I was sad to hear this news, but it also means they wont be stretching for ideas. The story that they wanted to tell – the redemption of Darth Vader after his failure trying to defend the first Death Star – will reach its logical end point.

The final story arc – known as “The End of Games” – will finish in August with issue #25. Im pretty confident we will still see the Sith Lord make appearances in the on-going Star Wars comics, but we will no longer see stories from his certain point of view. What is that sound you ask?

… a thousand voices crying out at once.

(Updated May 2016)

For what appears the be the foreseeable future, Star Wars fans will be treated to a weekly dose of Star Wars comics every Wednesday.

We have just seen the completion of the Kanan series and will soon see the end of the Obi Wan and Anakin series, and the arrival of 2 new mini-series comics featuring Han Solo and the comic adaptation of The Force Awakens – and of course the ongoing adventures in the two main titles, Poe Dameron and Star Wars.

Sadly, it was announced recently that the final issue of  – what I thought was supposed to remain as an on-going series – Darth Vader will be ending in August.

There has also been a hint that there is a 3 or 4 part series coming out in October leading up to the Rogue One release, including a one-shot.

Here is a look into the future of confirmed Star Wars related comics that will be coming out…

Star Wars This Week #18

Obi-Wan and Anakin are both stranded on a hostile planet after their ship has crashed while investigating a distress signal… Kanan has awoken from his coma, and sets out to rescue his friends from the Empire on Kaller… Led by Ashoka Tano, the Jedi have left Phoenix Squadron and set out for Malachor in hope to gain the knowledge to defeat the Inquisitors… This is a HUUUUUUUGE week for Star Wars fans.

The two Jedi stranded on Carnelion IV have been forced to work with two rivals to survive on the hostile planet. Neither faction knows of the Jedi, but they are both intrigued by the fact that a distress signal was sent from the planet. All technology like that had been thought to be long lost… the two factions – Open and Closed – work together to help Obi-Wan and Anakin find what they are looking for.

Kanan has now awoken from his coma, and just helped the Rebels escape from the planet Kaller, having just narrowly escaped the Stormtroopers who captured them. They have one last bit of business to attend to before returning to the growing Rebellion. This is the final issue of the 12 part Kanan series.

In the 2 part / 42 minute finale of the second season of Star Wars Rebels, the three Jedi – Kanan, Ezra and Ashoka – venture away from Pheonix Squadron and arrive on the planet of Malachor in search of answers. They have been sent here by Yoda to discover answers that will help them defeat the Sith and the Inquisitors who continue to hunt them.

There is so much to cover in this issue of Star Wars this Week, so without further delay, here we go! The adventure begins!!!

!!!Spoiler Warning!!!

#1 Obi Wan and Anakin #3

7/10

The two Jedi are still stranded on the planet Carnelion IV. Obi-Wan and Anakin are still searching for the distress signal that brought them to this war-torn planet. They have enlisted the help of two warriors from different factions – open and closed – and with their help are crossing the Celadon sea in a flying fortress. These two factions were willing to destroy each other until they realized what the Jedi were searching for… neither believed the technology to sent off world messages existed anymore, so they put aside their differences to help discover what is going on.

Top 10 *new* Star Wars Characters

I recently did a top 10 characters list, so i have decided to follow it up with a top 10 new characters list, using characters only from 2015/16 . This includes all of the new comics – Star Wars, Darth Vader, Kanan and others – as well as the on screen stuff from Star Wars Rebels and The Force Awakens.

I have included some characters from The Clone Wars who have survived into the Rebellion Era.

10. Capitan Rex.

This Old Man version of Rex is perfect. He was such a great soldier during the Clone Wars and i love the way they were able to bring him back for Rebels. It explains part of the backstory of the replacement of the Clones with regular conscripts. Most of the other clones went kind of bonkers over time due to the aging process, but Rex was so strong he made it to the Rebellion.

This morning the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser trailer dropped for all fans to see! The first “anthology” film, this movie appears to be following the timeline immediately before A New Hope. I wasn’t expecting to see any of this for at least another week or two, but instead things droped this morning! This is the first footage that we’ve seen from this movie, and since we haven’t heard much about the actual story or characters, we have to try and piece it together from this.

AT AT rogue one

There is actually quite a lot of footage here, this is more than just the usual teaser trailer. After you watch the video, look below for some hints and easter eggs…. and now, without delay, here it is in all its glory!!! The first Rogue One trailer:

Star Wars This Week #16

The Jedi – Ashoka, Ezra and Kanan – must seek answers from the Jedi Temple on Lothal… Chopper finally gets his own stand-alone story and has to escape the grasp of the Empire with the help of a new friend… The Rebels may have finally found a safe place to hide from the Empire; but is this planet really safe? We will investigate in this Rebels-centric edition of Star Wars This Week!

This week’s edition of Star Wars This Week will look into episodes 16, 17 and 18 of the second season of Star Wars Rebels.

One of the major themes from season two with the ghost crew revolves around the team being on the run. Always low on fuel and always trying to stay one step ahead of the inquisitors and the Empire. These episodes help resolve that side of this seasons storytelling. The other angle from this season- the Jedi and the Inquisitors who have been hunting them – will be addressed in the 2 part season finale…

Spoiler Warning!!!

  • Featuring: Star Wars Rebels (Episode 16 + 17 + 18)

#1 Star Wars Rebels – “Shroud of Darkness” (Episode 16)

9/10

The Jedi – Kanan and Ezra – are locked in yet another battle with the Inquisitors right of the bat here. They are investigating a potential secret base on the planet Oosalon. It is clear that the threat of being hunted by this mysterious group of dark Jedi grows with each passing moment. Rogue One Comic expected in October

Details are still a little vague, but it sounds like Marvel will be releasing a 3 part mini-series (as well as a separate one shot comic) that will be coming out this October as a primer for the movie of the same name, which comes out in December. There is also a novel planned for release around the same time, known as “Star Wars Catalyst: A Rogue One Story”, to be released by Del Ray.

The movie is still shrouded in mystery, and we have yet to see a trailer, but its exciting to hear that we will be getting something tangible before its December release.

Top 10 Star Wars Characters

Everyone loves lists! And everyone loves Star Wars! So i’ve decided to combine these two loves and compile the ultimate top 10 list for the Star Wars Universe.

Im sure everyone will have their own opinion, especially outside of the top 5. This might be easier to appease people as a top 20 list, but instead i decided to be bold. I have taken characters only from Canon, from the Phantom Menace to the Force Awakens. So, very vauge spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the new movie.

Honorable mentions go to: , Darth Maul, Ashoka Tano, Mace Windu, Kanan Jarrus and … as well as newer characters like Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe Dameron and Rey. Their full potential has yet to be seen. In time some of the new era characters will break onto this list… but for now, these are my top 10 characters of all time.

Without further delay, here is my list of the Top 10 Star Wars Characters.

10. R2-D2

R2-D2 speaks no english, but this droid brings life to an important role, Luke Skywalker’s sidekick. Astromec droids are always important, but when they have a certain knack for saving the day like this guy, you know why he needs to be kept around.

Han Solo #1 (coming June 1st!)

That’s right! Coming this June, we can expect to see a new mini-series from Marvel comics, featuring everyone’s favourite smuggler Han Solo!

Much like the other short run comics that have come out so far – Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Lando – this is expected to be a 5-part mini-series. It will most likely take place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, although nothing has yet been confirmed, it sounds like this will be the time period that we will be following.

Here is the plot synopsis from Marvel:

  • “Han Solo has finally entered his ship into the Dragon Void Run – an infamous high-stakes race across the stars. You know, the race Han has dreamt of winning. Only there’s a catch – his entry into this legendary race is a top-secret undercover mission for Princess Leia and the Rebellion! Will he keep his mind on the mission? More importantly – can he manage to pull it off while still maintaining his lead in the race?!”
